The interesting thing about art is that you can get the since and feel for people. In this case I get to know and understand one of my daughters a little better. I asked her what type of item would she like for me to draw for her. Well, here it is...I'm working on a Ford Model T, which she finds just absolutely beautiful.
It was 1984. I was 9 years old and arcades and drinking from a hose during summertime was still O.K. when the movie "The Last Starfighter" came out. There was nothing I wanted more than to fly the "Gunstar" to another world...Oh, and be Dirk the Daring from "Dragon's Lair."
It's not often that you see one of these. As a matter of fact I've never seen one of these until this morning. One of the tremendous blessings of this website has been the people that share the same passion about history. One of my most enduring relationships that I've cultivated since the beginning of this website has been with Bob Livingston. Bob is the author of Under the Southern Cross and Strike Back! and was the technical adviser to the art and SFX crew for the movie Unbroken. He continues his research on this incredible aircraft that helped win the war in the Pacific and has consistently provided me with technical advise on all of my B-24 designs and some of my other aircraft.
Trying to take advantage of the moment. I don't have any pressing requests for the time being so I wanted to spend some time working on a piece that I've meaning to get too. I've always thought the Sopwith Camel was both an iconic and legendary aircraft before I ever knew what it was when I was kid. The blueprint is complete and now I get to do my favorite part next...adding paint and emblems!
Perhaps one of the most iconic aircraft of WWII, the B-17 Flying Fortress was produced by Boeing in the 1930s. Over 12,000 of these incredible aircraft were built and eventually became the symbol of American Air Power. I'm happy to have a reason to illustrate one of these historic bombers.
