About

The first concept design came at a request from Brent Lankford. Brent worked at the F-35 factory in Ft Worth, Texas as a Quality Control expert. Today that factory is known as “Air Force Plant 4,” which was coincidentally one of five factories that produced B-24 Liberator's during WWII, the same aircraft that his father would later fly on in The Pacific. Brent was proud of his father's service in WWII and wanted something to hang on the wall in his office, so he reached out to his nephew David Lankford.

David was named after his grandfather Lt. David L. Lankford. David considered his grandfather a personal hero, and an inspiration to join the USAF in 2005.

By 2013, Capt David Lankford was serving in the USAF, and also held a degree in graphic design. Brent thought David might be able to draft a one-time piece for him. The initial design was a simple profile image of his grandfathers B-24 dubbed “Dinky.” It just so happened that David's commander at the time had also served in the same legacy unit of his grandfather, saw the initial print, and subsequently ordered several copies. Since that moment the requests have never stopped...

David wasn't looking to start a business, but increasing requests demanded one. When it came time to consider a company name and it didn't take long to figure one out. The company was named after the 90th Bomb Group (90th BG), the organization his grandfather served with and was famously known as “The Jolly Rogers.”

The Jolly Rogers was founded in 1942, and not soon afterward David's grandfather was serving as a bombardier with the 90th BG in the Pacific Theater. This was his grandfather's highlight of his life, so the business was named after his service, favorite unit, and legacy.

Today, we look to our past, honor our legends, resurrect forgotten icons, and forge new ones through our customers and friends. We enjoy the history, cherish the stories, and love the inspiration from creating designs that you love.
